Tom Brown

Tom Brown is banjo picker and a blues harp player who has worn many hats in his musical pursuits. He is a founding member of Spatial Effects and his songwriting efforts have have resulted in several of his songs being recorded by regional and national bluegrass bands.

Songwriting efforts have also resulted his placing in numerous contests, including the John Hartford Memorial Contest (2018, 2019, 2020), The Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest (2018), Musicians Untied to Protect Bristol Bay (2017), American Songwriter Lyric Contest (2018), Best Song in Folk/Bluegrass/Americana Category WWALS Songwriting Contest (2023), and he has been selected four times for the IBMA World of Bluegrass Songwriter Showcase.

Tom also co-wrote the bluegrass musical comedy Fat Shirley’s: A Trailer Park Opera with band mate David Crawford and he wrote the music for the dramatic production Twisted Roots, a collaborative effort with author Peggy Douglas based on the life and writings of Emma Bell Miles.
